Critical Mass Tickets

Mapping the "criminality" of bicycling

Videos

Aug Ticketing

This video was created by the Times-Up Video Collective. The video was originally to go to the press (and did) but it should be seen by anyone.

At the start of the August, 2006 Critical Mass ride a Hit-an-Run accident occured at 8pm in the Chelsea district of NYC. Unfortunately the NYPD did not respond quickly but decided instead to continue to harass cyclists. It was not until over 1 hour later that the NYPD formally responded to the hit-and-run.

A Taxi-cab driver was the only person chasing the suspect while dozens of scooter cops harrassed cyclists not more than 20 block away.

Footage from the Critical Mass ride in NYC (Manhattan) that occurred on July 28th, 2006. The cops have been cracking down on Critical Mass since 2004 but the Cyclists continue to come out and continue to ride. Despite the police harrassment the rides continue

May, 2006

May was yet another crazy month. A large turnout was met with quick reaction from the NYPD a blockade of 14th st., tickets for "no headlights" given in broad daylight to the shock of onlookers. The Ride continued uptown until 41st where the NYPD put up another road block. This time, however, non-bike riding citizens weren't going to stand for it. Worthing watching until the end (at least fast-forward it)

Feb, 2006

This was my first critical mass ride in New York City. I moved to NYC in September of 2005 and I had only been in the city a few months. I've ridden before in other cities but this was my first time in NYC. WOW!!! I heard it was bad but that was just hearsay and rumors until you ride in the ride you don't realize how hard your rights are being trampled upon. The NYPD seems to have no respect for the written law.
